Sisters Schools

Sisters has built a reputation for outstanding schools, students and athletes. The Sisters school district draws from a population of about 14, 000 and consistently attracts the state's top teaching staff.  The best students are tracked into Talented and Gifted (TAG) enrichment programs.

The community has a long record of financial support for local schools, passing a local $20 million bond measure to pay for improvements such as a new high school (built in 2003), donating hundreds of thousands of dollars in labor and materials for new classrooms, and devoting countless hours of volunteer time annually, for everything from tutoring to literacy fairs to computer support.

Sisters Christian Academy offers an educational alternative in the community. Sisters Christian Academy teaches students to define, support, and live out a Christian worldview in step with curriculum and instruction that emphasizes character development and the discernment of moral values. The school pursues the highest standards of academic excellence through an advanced curriculum, exciting and varied special programs, and tremendous attention to the individual needs of every student. Highly-qualified, licensed teachers work passionately to instill a love of life-long learning in students.www.sisterschristianacademy.com

There are also several pre-schools in the area.

Sisters Elementary consists of a Head Start class, and grades K - 4.  There are over 400 students at Sisters Elementary.

Sisters Middle School contains grades 5 - 8 and has approximately 400 students.

Sisters High School, grades 9 - 12, population 513, has been designated a "School of Excellence" by the state of Oregon, awarded an "Accredited with Merit" certification by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, and earned an international accreditation designation.  A variety of programs suited to the unique interests of the student body account for part of Sisters High School's success.  Some of the more innovative curriculum available at Sisters High consists of: Information Systems Management; Software applications; computer programming; computer-aided design; web design; a culinary training that operates a restaurant business for college credit; video production; IEE; and the Americana project.

IEE is the Interdisciplinary Environmental Expedition.  This integrated program uses the great outdoors as a living laboratory for students to learn about the natural environment, while fostering community partnerships.  It combines environmental sciences with language arts, social studies, and outdoor recreation such as mountaineering, rafting, fly fishing and mountain biking.

The Americana Project, a collaboration of the Sisters Folk Festival and the school district, teaches students to play guitar, write songs, record and perform American roots music including jazz, blues and traditional folk music.
