JANUARY -

Sisters Folk Festival Winter Concert Series Friday, January 9
The Steep Canyon Rangers will start the series. After bursting onto the bluegrass scene in 2001, they were named IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year in 2006. On stage and in the studio, they have perfected their ensemble approach using fierce dynamics and seamless harmonies. Winners of the new band contest at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, the Rangers base their sound around a stunning catalogue of original songs, drawing on the sounds of early bluegrass, honky-tonk, and blues. The first two shows are $15 adult/$10 student; and for Doug Maclean they are $20 adult/$10 student. A series pass can be purchased for $45 for all three shows. Chamber Annual Awards Ceremony Friday, February 6
The Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Award's Ceremony where new board members are installed and the 2008 Business and Citizen of the Year announced.  Location: FivePine Conference Center.  Hours: 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Celebrate winter and all the recreational opportunities that come with the season. Sisters Starry Night Benefit Concert Series, Saturday, February 21
The first concert in 2009 of the Starry Nights Concert Series will feature Michael McDonald with a performance at the Sisters High School. The evening will showcase the soulful ballads and pop classics. Michael is one of the most respected and accomplished performers of his generation. He will be accompanied by his long time band mate, singer/songwriter Bernie Chiaravalle. This is the 12th year of this fund raiser to support the programs and activities for students in the Sisters School District. Sisters Folk Festival Winter Concert Series Thursday,  February 26
Singer/songwriters Kris Delmhorst & Jeffrey Foucault will perform their exquisite brand of folk music. Delmhorst’s style of songwriting has been described as fully realized and even lush at times, but retaining a hushed intensity, a spirit of lo-fi intimacy and unhurried exploration. Her husband, Jeffrey Foucault has created a unique style and sound, and recorded his critically acclaimed “Ghost Repeater” with producer Bo Ramsey. His songwriting has been described as impossible to take your ears away... a singular talent, an important new voice... striking intimacy and naturalness of tone. Sisters Act - "A Mountain Home Companion Saturday,  March 7
A community talent show to be held on Saturday, March 7th at Sisters High School auditorium.  Tickets on sale at The Pony Express, Sisters Olive and Nut Company and at the door the night of the show; $8.00 for adults; $4.00 for children 12 & under.  Come see the best talent around; music, skits, dance, song, door prizes, refreshments, fun for the entire family.  Event sponsored by Sisters Good Samaritan Ministries to benefit the Masaka School and Orphanage in Uganda, Africa and Sisters High School scholarship program.  Call 549-1149 for more information.

John Craig Memorial Nordic Ski Race, Mail Carry , Saturday March 14    
Come ski the Pacific Northwest’s most scenic and historic Nordic event! The course traverses the beautiful McKenzie Pass Highway just 9 miles west of Sisters and offers spectacular mountain views. Backcountry over the top mail carry . Tour to Dee Wright Observatory or scenic viewpoint and back, all levels and abilities can ski the road. Aid stations and EMT support. The Starry Night Benefit Concert Series will feature contemporary Hal Ketchum and his acoustic trio. This is a concert you will thoroughly enjoy. This is the 12th year of this fund raiser to support the programs and activities for students in the Sisters School District. Metolius River Fly Fishing and Bamboo Rod Faire Saturday & Sunday,  TBD
This show is quickly becoming one of the largest events on the West Coast where bamboo rods are featured in a user friendly manner. Meet the makers, cast the rods, custom design your own rod, or just take one home today! Meet factory representatives from across the fly fishing spectrum. Watch fly tyers conduct their art. Take in an informative presentation and learn about the Metolius River and other fly fishing subjects. Local artists will also be on hand with examples for sale of their fish, water or outdoors related art. Have an old rod, reel, creel or other piece of fishing equipment that you’ve always wondered about? Come and get a free appraisal by one of the many collectors who will be her to also buy, sell or trade. Ever wondered how a bamboo rod is made? Watch skilled artisans during live demonstrations.  Come and get a free casting lesson from representatives of the ODFW Angler Education Program. Kids receive free registration for a chance to win a complete fly fishing outfit!! All you have to do is take a free casting lesson. Watch fly tyers and even try you hand at tying your own fly.
